Leading the Fight for Stem Cell Cures
There will be a change in the White House in January 2009. Based on what we know of President Elect Obama's position on stem cell research, we expect that he will lift the current federal restrictions on human embryonic stem cell research.
However, anti-cures forces continue their efforts. We still have work to do to move research into the clinic.
As advocates, we are working to:
- Loosen federal restrictions on embryonic stem cell research;
- Make sure that all forms of stem cell research are legal in every state;
- Expand funding at the NIH and Department of Defense for stem cell research and translational medicine, for our families and for our veterans; and
- Encourage the FDA to accelerate establishing safety guidelines for embryonic stem cell derived therapies.
