Siri Vaeth-Dunn, MSW
Cystic Fibrosis Patient Advocate, and Mother to a Child with CF
Siri Vaeth-Dunn became involved in
cystic fibrosis advocacy in 1995, when her daughter Tess was diagnosed
with CF at the age of 5 months. That year she became involved with
Cystic Fibrosis Research, Inc. (CFRI), a nonprofit organization
dedicated to improving the quality of life of those with this genetic
life-threatening disease, and she has served on CFRI’s Board of
Directors since 2002. As a Member of the Board, she supports the
organization’s efforts to provide educational and psychosocial
support, spread awareness of the disease, and to fund research for a
cure. Siri also serves on the Parent Advisory Committee of the Cystic
Fibrosis Center at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, where she
has authored support materials for newly diagnosed families, and has
helped to keep cystic fibrosis at the forefront of the hospital’s
Family Centered Care Program. Siri’s involvement with stem cell
research began in 2004, when she served as the Santa Cruz County
Co-Chair for the Yes on 71 Campaign.
A social worker by training, Siri
currently teaches Community Studies at Santa Cruz Children’s
School, and is the grant writer for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Santa
Cruz County (where she previously spent 10 years serving as Executive
Director). Siri lives in Santa Cruz with her husband, Geoffrey Dunn,
and children, 13-year-old Tess, and 9-year-old Dylan.
