Mark Burton
Campaign Director, Michigan Stem Cell Ballot Question Committee
Mark A. Burton is Campaign Director for the CureMichigan campaign,
seeking to overturn one of the nation’s strictest policies
banning embryonic stem cell research. He was drawn to the
campaign and the issue, like many of us, due to a deep personal
interest in finding cures for patients and families who suffer from
debilitating diseases.
Mark served as head lobbyist and political director for the Michigan
Association for Justice where he worked with Michigan elected
officials on advancing legislative solutions to consumer and civil
justice issues. There, he was recruited to help guide an
award-winning grassroots campaign that overturned partisan control of
the Michigan House of Representatives in 2006.
Prior to that, Mark served in advocacy positions with the State of
Michigan, the Michigan House of Representatives and the W.K. Kellogg
Foundation. Mark has extensive experience working on candidate and
ballot campaigns at the local, state and national levels.
Born and raised in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Mark now resides
in Lansing. He was among fewer than 50 law students worldwide
invited to participate in an international human rights program at
Oxford, and received a law degree from Michigan State University
College of Law and two Bachelor’s degrees from Northern Michigan
University.
